Along the Silk Road
Aliya Shakirova

The source of inspiration was my life journey which started in Uzbekistan, which was a part of the Silk Road and is famous for its rich craftsmanship traditions.
Nowadays there is a ‘revival’ of craftsmanship and Do-It-Yourself hype to counterbalance the harmful effects of fast consumption. During Corona crisis the sustainability became more urgent. Consumers want conscious products with a story and a ‘soul’.
Textile Museum initiates the awareness project ‘Along the Silk Road’ with purpose to:
● inspire people to create handmade textile objects
● tell personal stories through old clothes as they hold memories
● re-purpose textile waste
I have designed a Do-It-Yourself set for making wall hanging from personal old clothes, creating an unique interior object with emotional value.
